operate a 'tourist' VIP bus service
from Bangkok to Chumphon and then

The best option however is to take the overnight
Sleeper-Train from Bangkok > Chumphon. From
Bangkok you need to catch either the 6.20pm train
to Surat Thani (Train #167) or the 7.30pm train
to Nakhon Si Thammarat (Train #85). Both of these
will stop at the port city of Chumphon from where
you need to catch one of the boat services.
The
train station in Bangkok is called "Sa-tarnee
Hwalumpong" and any taxi will be able to
take you there. Tickets can be bought at the station
and it's advisable to arrive a couple of hours
before.
There
is a tourist information desk at the station entrance
and the guys there speak excellent English. They
will be happy to help you organise your tickets.
This is a free service.
On arrival in Chumphon at around 6.00 - 6.30am,
there are several operators who have offices directly
on the platform. From here you can take a free
transfer to the pier as well as organise tickets.
The ferries services start at 7.00am and the crossing
takes just over two hours.
Alternatively, the 2.45pm train to Butterworth
(Train #35) will get to Chumphon around 10.30
- 11.00pm which would give you the option of one
night in Chumphon and then catching the boat the
following day.
Surat
Thani (Boat
Timeable)
For those coming up from the south of Thailand,
you need to head for the port of Surat Thani.
From Phuket or Krabi you can only get by bus (4
hours) but from Trang, Hat Yai or even Malaysia
you can also travel by rail.
Koh
Samui > Koh Phangan > Koh Tao (Boat
Timeable)
Regular speedboats and express boats run between
the three islands of Koh Samui > Koh Phangan
> Koh Tao. There is also a luxury Catamaran.
