What 'Diving Lifestyle' Internship program did you complete?
What where you doing before you joined Crystal Dive's team to complete your scuba diving internship (Diving Lifestyle Program) on Koh Tao?
I've been traveling around for 5 years after I quit from Microsoft Search technology centre. When I travelled Thailand in 2012, I visited Koh Tao a few times to complete my Open Water, Advanced Open Water and Nitrox at Crystal.
Diving took me through another door to know the world. After 3 months travel in Sri Lanka in 2015, I think it's time to come back Crystal Dive to resume my big blue dream.
How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?
I spent 9 weeks to finish my Divemaster course with 1 week off. Theoretically, you can finish it as soon as 4 weeks. The schedule is really flexible which I liked a lot.
I really didn't want to finish it so soon and I really enjoy my time as a DMT. You can go fun diving at any time to any your favourite dive sites. You can also go on any course to assist the instructor you like, just easily putting your arrangement on the big DMT board. Once you have checked all boxes in your column, you are ready to be a Divemaster!
What was your favourite part of the scuba diving Internship and why?
In the whole internship you would develop your diving knowledge so much and improve your underwater skills not to mention making some best friends on this island.
But I think
the snorkel test
is most my favourite part. This is a ceremony to celebrate becoming
a Dive master, from then on you name will be erased from the DMT
board and after that you will be a dive Pro ready to work?
What was your least favourite part and why?
Who was your favourite Instructor and why?
It's a really hard question, I have met many instructors, some of them taught me, some of them I've assisted. But they are all good with their own teaching style. I would say Neal Sanders is the kind of instructor I would like to be.
Neal is very knowledgeable and full of passion for teaching. He likes to give all his understanding about scuba to his students, and he really wish students could start to love diving and enjoy diving.
Once in a swimming test after diving, he accompanied the student for the 200 meters in the sea, encouraging him to complete it. This really impressed me. Neal pays attention to every detail, whether in the classroom, during skills briefing and diving debriefing. I hope I could do as good as Neal once I have been an instructor.
As a qualified PADI Divemaster, what are you future plans with regards to scuba?
And what about Koh Tao?
I think these pictures answers that question, amazing sunsets every day!
And your favourite restaurant on Koh Tao?
Too many good restaurants and food on Koh Tao, they are all my favourite
1. Enjoy Restaurant
Serving Germany food also with Thai cuisine, food is always served with big plate, so don't order too much, your stomach is not as big as you think. Also best French fries on Koh Tao.
Beside Enjoy, I like Thai food there, esp. the fried rice with green curry.
Opposite Smile Mart. If you like authentic Korean food.
4. 169 Unlimited - Korean Style BBQ
169 THB for unlimited meat and vegetables, good for when you are Hungary!
Awesome pizza and spaghetti with super beach view
6. Da Sandwich
Has to be the best Sandwich on Koh Tao
7. La Pizzeria
In Sairee Beach. Italian food, I like the pizza and the risotto, and don't forget the dessert and blueberry vodka.
8. Pier Noodle
A little booth with noodle soup on the pier. If you have 4 dives a day and have no time for lunch, this is a very good choice. Even when I'm not diving, I will come in every few days.
Soup is made with pork chops, chicken, noodles and various local vegetables so delicious.
How did you spend your non diving days on Koh Tao?
Doing yoga and reading while listening to music in my bungalow. Actually I don't have so many non-diving days as I will go diving as much as possible. Scuba diving is part of my life now.
I'm going to Malaysia to apply for a new Thailand visa then I’m coming back for my Instructor course. I'm not sure if I will be the next one to testify "5 days becomes 5 years on Koh Tao".
