PADI Divemaster Internship, ThailandMax - Divemaster Internship

Name: Max Warhold

Hometown: Dortmund, Germany

Age: 21

Internship: PADI Divemaster

What PADI scuba diving Internship program did you complete?

EFR, Rescue Diver and Divemaster Lifestyle program

What were you doing before you joined Crystal Dive?

Before I arrived on Koh Tao with the idea to become a dive professional, I've been traveling for the last two years through Australia and Asia.

How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?

It took me around 2 months to complete my Rescue and Divemaster. I wasn't in a rush so I decided to take time to get a proper amount of experience before completing my DM.

Divemaster Internship - Koh Tao, Thailand

What was your favourite part of your scuba diving internship and why?

Besides diving everyday with friends who became family, it was probably the many different aspects of Jenny's large variety of Eco Koh Tao Projects.

What was your least favourite and why?

I can't really think about any aspects that bothered me about the DM program. Maybe that you unfortunately JUST get one Snorkel Test ?

Who was your favourite instructor and why?

For me it's difficult to name just ONE instructor, because of the large variety of excellent instructors at Crystal and their different teaching techniques. I loved this variety of styles.

But just to name one, it would be my mentor, neighbour and friend Benno. We are living at the same resort, so I met him before I even started my Internship at Crystal. So whenever I had any questions, my mentoring neighbour was always around and keen to help!

During your scuba diving internship which of the additional Marine Conservation 'ECO' program activities did you take part in and which did you enjoy the most?

I was personally interested in marine conservation prior to starting my Divemaster Internship so having it included was a bonus! Jenny is doing an amazing job here on Koh Tao, and shows that one motivated person can make a DIFFERENCE!

From all the different projects like Dive site and beach clean ups, I personally enjoyed the 'Drupella Snail - Collecting' the most. It combines your diving-skills and your passion to help the environment ?

Do you think our additional Marine Conservation 'ECO' program was beneficial to your Professional level scuba diving training and if so why?

It most definitely was beneficial. On one hand side you have the opportunity to get lots of diving on the internship meaning lots of practice of buoyancy skills which improves your skills. And on the other hand , regarding the marine conservation, you are part of something bigger that actually gives something back to the beautiful environment and marine culture of Koh Tao.

As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are your future plans with regards to scuba?

For me I want to keep improving my knowledge and skills around scuba diving. To do so I feel like going to visit a lot of different dive spots around the world, increase my diving ability as well as experience different environments. While doing this I'm trying to find my own spot somewhere around the world, to be part of something or even start my own marine conservation project!

Preserving the Beauty of the Ocean as part of your life, who wouldn't like that!?

And what about Koh Tao?

Koh Tao is a beautiful island to start and get valuable experience as a scuba diver. The large number and variety of dive sites gives you the chance to practice lots of skills and gain more experience and confident with diving. The large number of customers and new divers gives you the chance to earn heaps of experience with customers.

On the other hand side, all the different bays and beaches make it a good place to hang out and relax for a while.

Favourite Restaurant?

Tukta. NO question! Best and cheapest Thai-food on Koh Tao. And if you feel like some western food. Da's Sandwich close to the pier. By far the BIGGEST sandwiches of the Island!

How did you spend your non-diving days?

Most of the time relaxing at the beach or hiking to one of the many different bays! Do some outdoor activities and try to discover the island, even after around 6 months here on Koh Tao, the island keeps surprising me with its hidden pearls.

Where are you heading to next?

My first step is visiting my family back home for a couple weeks before I'm heading on the next big adventure for a couple years. I'm probably gonna head to Indonesia to find myself a spot to connect my passion for yoga and meditation with scuba diving.

My plan is to find a place where people can connect retreatments and diving, diving and meditation, diving and soul-food. Just trying to bring the peace of diving, into people's life as well! My idea is to maybe connect diving and ZEN therapy, but that's still a bit further away.
