PADI Divemaster Internship, ThailandNonna - Divemaster Internship

Name: Nonna Talwar

Hometown: Tampere, Finland

Age: 23

Internship: PADI Divemaster

What 'Diving Lifestyle' Internship program did you complete?

I started diving in Koh Tao in July 2015, completed Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses and came back after two weeks to do Rescue-DM.

What where you doing before you joined Crystal Dive's team to complete your scuba diving internship (Diving Lifestyle Program) on Koh Tao?

I finished my studies last year and traveled South-East Asia for 2 and half months before coming to Koh Tao.

How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?

From the Rescue Diver course to Divemaster it took me 6 weeks. I tried to do a lot of fun dives at the same time and often I did 4-5 dives a day.

What was your favourite part of the scuba diving Internship and why?

Koh Tao and Crystal Dive Resort are awesome for learning. I loved the team and how there are different people with different backrounds and experiences and ways of teaching. I also became very good friends with some of the other DMTs- the people that I met were my favourite part of the internship. And, of course, the diving.

What was your least favourite part and why?

In my opinion the whole program is very well organized and I did not really have a least favourite part in the internship itself. Getting used to saying goodbye to people that you have just got to know was sometimes hard.

Who was your favourite Instructor and why?

Everyone is really awesome here and I learned a lot from all the instructors that I assisted. Also they are all so different that it's difficult to name one favourite. Peloto Lord was my instructor for the Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses and my mentor during the DM course as well, so I give him a lot of respect as he taught me the first breaths underwater.

I must say that as an assistant I liked Heath Stewart's ways of organizing the course and his ways to teach and Jack van Geel is the calmest person I have seen underwater with students.

As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are you future plans with regards to scuba?

Right now it's difficult to say. I would like to work as a divemaster for some time somewhere at least for a while. At the moment I also have the Instructor Development Course in my mind but I will have to wait at least until January to be able to do that as I just started diving in July. I might travel meanwhile. One thing is good about Koh Tao- it's easy to come back to!

And what about Koh Tao?

This is an easy place to get stuck in. Life here seems to be simple and easy. I love it.

And your favourite restaurant on Koh Tao?

YANGS! Every day. Massive portions, good food, smiley thai staff.

How did you spend your non diving days on Koh Tao?

I have literally had one or two days off here- I have been so keen on diving. The day off I spent in Aow Leuk, freediving. Also I got some dry days when I was sick but that doesn't count.

Where are you heading next?

At the moment I'm happy that I don't know where I'm going next. It's nice to be free of plans and go where the wind takes me.
