Tech Diving in Koh Tao - Tec 45

Technical diving in Koh Tao with the Tec 45 specialty course

Tech Diving – Tec 45 Course

The Tec 45 sub-course of the DSAT Tec Diver course introduces Tec 40 divers to the first stages of full, technical deep decompression diving. Certified Tec 45 divers are qualified to make multi-stop decompression dives that employ EANx and oxygen for accelerated decompression.

The expectation is that a Tec 45 diver intends to continue on in technical diving.

Accordingly, the course not only develops the knowledge and skills to make open circuit technical dives as deep as 45 meters/145 feet, but also begins developing the knowledge and skills the diver will need at the Tec 50 level and beyond.

The Tec 45 course consists of three knowledge development sections, three practical applications sessions and four training dives, of which the first dive will be a limited open water dive to a maximum depth of 10m.

What Are The Course Goals?

  • To qualify you to make limited decompression dives using air, enriched air and oxygen to a depth of 45 metres/145 feet or less.
  • Certification as a Tec 45 diver qualifies you to use a single decompression gas of up to 100 percent oxygen to make your decompression more conservative or to accelerate your decompression.
  • To train you in the knowledge, procedures and motor skills required for decompression diving within the limitations of the Tec 45 certification.
  • To assure you understand and acknowledge the hazards and risks associated with this level of tec diving, and tec diving in general.
  • To train you to prepare for and respond to reasonably foreseeable emergencies that may occur within Tec 45 limits.
  • To lay the foundation continuing your training in the Tec 50, Tec Trimix 65 and Tec Trimix Diver courses.

Your Obligations & Responsibilities

  • To follow the instructor’s directions and dive plans strictly, and to not separate from the instructor or your dive team.
  • To take all aspects of what you’re learning seriously, and to display an attitude and conduct that is consistent with that expected of a team-oriented technical diver.
  • To refrain from tec diving outside this course until you’re fully qualified and certified.
  • To maintain adequate physical and mental health, and to alert the instructor to any problems you have with them.
  • To accept the risk for this type of diving, and for specific risks unique to each dive environment, and to immediately notify the instructor if this risk becomes intolerable for you.

Failing to meet these obligations and responsibilities can have these consequences:

  • In the worst case, you could be injured, disabled or killed.
  • You will have failed to demonstrate the attitude and maturity required for Tec diving, and will not qualify for certification.

Certification as a Tec 45 diver qualifies you to dive within the following limits….

What would you expect from your DSAT PADI Tec 45 Course?

crystaldive.com-koh-tao-tec45-diving-courseThe main difference between Tec 40 course and Tec 45 is that you are not as limited as you are on the Tec 40 course. On the Tec 40 course you were limited to 10 minutes’ deco time with a maximum EANX 50% as a deco breathing gas.

Now you can plan your dives with unlimited deco time but you can only carry one deco tank so the size of your deco cylinder will affect whether you can plan a longer dive.

On the Tec 50 course you will learn the procedures of carrying 2 deco cylinders. You will also start start to breath pure oxygen.

Exciting..!!

All our training dive are conducted from one of our 3 dives boat to the best deep dive sites in the gulf of Thailand, and the best wrecks in the area.

Wearing full Tec kit of doubles (either sidemount or backmount) plus a decompression cylinder you’ll extend your depth limit to 45 metres and learn how to plan and execute repetitive accelerated decompression dives using up to 100% O2.

This is a course where you’ll rise to the challenge and make the commitment to become a technical diver.
