2. Divemaster Equipment Costs

There are specific pieces of equipment that you will need to be in possession of to be able to perform your duties as a dive professional.

If you only plan on taking the course itself as a Rescue diver with no internship, or you have not taken out a Lifestyle Package, then its worth checking to see what equipment is included with the course cost on its own.

3. Divemaster Course Fees & PADI Materials

The actual cost for the Divemaster course can to be broken up in to different parts.

First there is the cost of the PADI course itself, the course fee. On top of this, you will need to get your own set of PADI materials and the PADI Divemaster crew pack, which consists of all the manuals and slates.

4. PADI Divemaster Certification Cost

Once you have successfully completed the course you will have to pay the certification fees.

The course fee to complete the Divemaster course with Crystal Dive Koh Tao is:

  • 30,000 THB and the cost of the Divemaster crewpack 7,000 THB.
  • $210 (AUS) for the 2019 Divemaster application fees and first year PADI membership cost.

When doing the course in the region of Asia Pacific these fees will have to be paid directly to PADI headquarters in Sydney, Australia in Australian Dollars.

Another thing you will need to consider when taking your professional diver training is a ‘personal professional level insurance policy that covers you for any unexpected eventualities.

At Crystal Dive we offer our Divemaster candidates the ‘Indepths annual IDEC plus Pro Level’ diving insurance £129GBP.

There are many more insurance providers available and you can look and shop around for an insurance policy that suits your needs.

As a PADI dive professional there are a several items of dive equipment that you will need to possess, for example a compass, dive knife or surface signalling device, to name a few.

To increase your chances of eligibility for employment with a reputable dive centre, it is recommended to have your own full set of dive gear (excluding tanks and weights). You are more than welcome to use our shop equipment during the course.

Divemaster Lifestyle Diving Internships

5. Divemaster Lifestyle Internship Cost

When taking the Divemaster Lifestyle Internship, some items of equipment will be included in the package price. The best course of action to take is to make a personal checklist of all the items needed and directly discuss this with the dive centre.

6. Koh Tao Living Expenses

During the time it takes to complete the course, you will need a place to stay and you will also need to think about covering your general expenses such as food and drink.

Koh Tao offers a variety of different accommodation options, from cheap fan bungalows tucked away in the jungle to fancy villas with private a swimming pool.

  • Monthly rates for renting a basic room will be between 7,000 – 12,000 THB and will depend on if you want fan or Air Conditioned room
  • Apartments or houses with kitchen facilities and a living room can range from 12,000 – 30,000 THB per month.

There is no need to book ahead, you can always personally check out a few locations before making your decision.

7. Koh Tao Food & Drink

When it comes to food and drink, it is quite similar to finding the right type of accommodation.

You can find many cheap eats in local Thai restaurants away from the beach or you can fine dine in an array of quality restaurants that Koh Tao offers serving food from all corners of the world.

  • A cheap meal in a Thai restaurant including free drinking water will be around 80 THB.
  • Choosing a western style meal including some alcoholic drinks can set you back 250 – 500 THB.

Looking for a night out? If you want to enjoy a night out on Koh Tao there are many beach bars you can visit.

Some venues have live music nights with lots of them showcasing Thailand’s famous fire shows.

During the late evening hours, the nightlife scene plays sounds of music from all over the world.

Most venues will offer happy hour discounts, but expect to pay around 70 – 100 THB for a local beer or local spirit and mixer.

A Scuba Diving Internship is an all inclusive package that provides you with everything you need in order to become a PADI Divemaster and give you the best chance of success in your professional diving career.

The price includes all the above described costs apart from accommodation and your general expenses.

There are no hidden extra costs and with these packages you get a lot more than the standard Divemaster course, which makes it much better value.

Included in the ‘Lifestyle’ package price is the course fee, PADI materials, insurance policy, 2 PADI Specialty certifications (Emergency O2 Provider and Equipment Specialist), certification fees and PADI membership fees.

You will also receive some basic dive equipment that you will need in order to perform your duties as a Divemaster, such as a compass, dive knife, SMB, slate, CPR and a mask.

These lifestyle packages can be adapted to your current certification level. There is even an option to do what is commonly called a Zero to Hero course, meaning Open Water all the way up to PADI Divemaster.

Scuba Diving Internship Costs

9. PADI Divemaster Internship Costs

The price of the package can be adapted accordingly and ranges from 54,500 THB to 84,500 THB for the Divemaster Lifestyle Internship.

The only extra costs you will need to account for are food, drink and accommodation.

In total you can expect to spend around 80,000THB – 90,000 THB to complete the PADI Divemaster at Crystal Dive Koh Tao.

This will include your course costs, PADI materials, equipment and insurance, as well as your accommodation in a mid-range room or apartment and a daily spending budget of around 500 – 700 THB.

Becoming a professional diver is definitely a lot cheaper than most other professional or academic educational courses and it will only take a fraction of the time to complete compared to a university degree.

Once you receive your certification as a PADI Divemaster you will have improved your skill set significantly and you will be a valuable part of any dive organization or dive shop.
