What PADI scuba diving Internship program did you complete?
Divemaster Lifestyle Program
What were you doing before you joined Crystal Dive?
I first arrived on Koh Tao whilst on Holiday a couple of months ago and completed my Rescue course & Deep, DPV & Sidemount Specialties. I then decided to come back out to work my way through the Divemaster program.
How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?
I completed my Divemaster and the Internship over 7 weeks.
What was your favourite part of your scuba diving internship and why?
My favourite part of the Divemaster program was assisting on courses and then on my Internship it was being the Divemaster for customers for the first time solo.
What was your least favourite and why?
The Mapping Project – because I was nervous about the navigation. Our first attempt was a fail as we came back up with 3 slates with random things written down as we didn’t really plan what each of us was going to do and where we should start from and so we got disorientated. On our second attempt it went much smoother as we actually planned it out and the final map was awesome!
Who was your favourite instructor and why?
My favourite Instructor is Dav – I asked him to be my mentor when I commenced my Divemaster program and he said Yes! I chose him because when I was here on holiday he taught me Sidemount and I really liked the way he taught as well as being super knowledgeable, friendly and patient.
Throughout my Divemaster Program he was always there to answer questions and to provide me with actual feedback that I could use to improve myself and give me praise when I had done a great job.
My first assist was also with him so I was able to learn so much about how he teaches and his expectations of me and so then I was ready for all of my future assists throughout the program where I would be working with other Instructors.
I am really grateful to Dav for being my mentor as he has made me feel much more confident about my own diving and given me heaps of tips for me to use in my future scuba diving career.
During your scuba diving internship which of the additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program activities did you take part in and which did you enjoy the most?
I took part in Beach Clean Up’s, Cigarette butt Challenge, Dives against Debris, Seahorse Survey and the Box Fish Plastic Bottle Build. My favourite activities were the Dive against Debris and the Seahorse Survey as even though a lot of trash was collected it was satisfying (also found random things) and the Seahorse Survey was really interesting (plus we saw one under the boat).
Do you think our additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program was beneficial to your Professional level scuba diving training and if so why?
I enjoyed the activities I took part in as there was a good variety but I think it would be beneficial to include more of the Surveys on Marine life or coral cleaning to provide some different experiences for Divemaster Candidates.
As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are your future plans with regards to scuba?
My future plans are to gain permanent employment as a Divemaster to increase my experience and then in February 2020 I would like to complete my IDC at Crystal Dive.
And what about Koh Tao?
I would like to stay on Koh Tao for the foreseeable future.
Pom Somtam & Coconut Monkey
How did you spend your non-diving days?
I haven’t really had too many ‘non–diving’ days and even on those I would go fun diving with other DMC’s. Aside from that you would find me at Coconut Monkey relaxing.
Where are you heading to next?
I would like to stay.
