What PADI scuba diving Internship program did you complete?
What were you doing before you joined Crystal Dive?
Working at a lemonade shop in Hawaii, also working as a speech therapist and enjoying the island life.
How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?
I have been here on Koh Tao for just over 3 months, all spent with Crystal.
What was your favourite part of your scuba diving internship and why?
I’m not sure where to start! The social side of Crystal and Koh Tao are really incredible, it’s really a community and I felt super welcome since arriving. On the diving side of things, taking out nervous fun divers who haven’t been in the tropical ocean before- it’s super rewarding to turn them into confident divers who want to spend more time in the sea!
Also, seeing 2 whalesharks in 24 hours is pretty hard to beat.
What was your least favourite and why?
Seeing people I became close friends with leave the island was pretty tough.
Who was your favourite instructor and why?
Sine, her teaching is catered to her students and you can tell she really cares. She has also helped me in countless ways with both my internship and life on Koh Tao.
During your scuba diving internship, which of the additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program activities did you take part in and which did you enjoy the most?
I did a lot of ECO because I really loved it! Drupella collection, dive site clean up, beach clean up, island wide clean up, junkyard maintenance, are just a few.
Do you think our additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program was beneficial to your Professional level scuba diving training and if so why?
Absolutely! You learn so much as a diver and every professional should have an idea about what’s going on in our oceans as well as what we can do to minimize our impact.
As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are your future plans with regards to scuba?
Freelancing around Koh Tao and hopefully Crystal if they aren’t sick of me yet! I love taking out certified divers and showing them the incredible creatures of the sea, and helping set up / take down the boats and equipment makes me feel useful.
And what about Koh Tao….
I’m not planning to leave in the near future other than a couple of quick trips to visit friends and enjoy surrounding countries.
Too difficult! Coconut Monkey, Zest, Yangs, my fruit lady.
How did you spend your non-diving days?
Enjoying another part of the island with friends, spending time in the sun and sea. A lot of BBQs and some girl’s nights!
Where are, you heading to next?
Hopefully staying here for a while! Eventually back to Maui, Hawaii.
