What PADI scuba diving Internship program did you complete?
What were you doing before you joined Crystal Dive?
Communications director for a charity in the UK (Happy City Initiative)
How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?
The internship has been 2 weeks, my DMC lasted 2 months.
What was your favourite part of your scuba diving internship and why?
Becoming a better diver! I’ve learned a huge amount and gained some very useful skills regarding the business of diving also. I have also met some wonderful people.
What was your least favourite and why?
The early mornings take some getting used to, but it wasn’t a ‘least favourite’ issue!
Who was your favourite instructor and why?
This is impossible to answer, there are so many fantastic instructors at Crystal and I’ve learned a lot from all of them.
During your scuba diving internship which of the additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program activities did you take part in and which did you enjoy the most?
I believe I did most of them! Reef check, coral check, dive site clean-up, polyp cleaning, Drupella snails, crown of thorns and beach clean as well as some data input and muck dives to check for rubbish.
Honestly the part I enjoyed the most, and benefited from the most was learning from Jen, there is so much information you can gain on each eco dive and it not only makes you a better diver but also gives you an understanding of the ecosystem that you can pass on to customers and other fun-divers.
Do you think our additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program was beneficial to your Professional level scuba diving training and if so why?
Absolutely! Without question, I’d say that learning about the marine environment and how to contribute to its health and protection is a vital part of becoming a good diver. The fact that Eco Koh Tao was a part of Crystal was a big part of my decision to choose Crystal for my Divemaster programme.
As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are your future plans with regards to scuba?
To gain a lot more experience as a Divemaster, both here at Crystal and maybe some other dive schools and I would also love to spend some time working on a live-aboard. Then at some point after I’ve got the DM experience I’ll begin my IDC…
And what about Koh Tao:
Great! The weather has dipped the last month, but apart from that I think it’s a fantastic island to do your DM, big enough to explore and find new things even after a few months but small enough to feel like home pretty quickly. It’s also beautiful and seems to attract lovely people!
Zest for breakfast, DA’s for lunch, Pink table or Zapp 60 for dinner…
How did you spend your non-diving days?
What is a non diving day?
Where are you heading to next?
South, but not for a while…
