What was your favourite part of your scuba diving internship and why?

My favourite part of my Divemaster training was when I saw my first whale shark right after surfacing from my first fun dive lead.

What was your least favourite and why?

My least favourite part of my Divemaster was doing my knowledge reviews because of the tricky ways PADI phrases some of the questions.

Who was your favourite instructor and why?

My favourite instructor was my mentor Ginger Mat. He was my favourite instructor because from our very first dive together on my advanced course he was always challenging me to be the best possible diver I could.

During your scuba diving internship which of the additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program activities did you take part in and which did you enjoy the most?

I took part in many ECO programs during my Divemaster. I helped collect rubbish from dive sites and the beach, I also searched for and removed drupella snails and crown of thorns from various dive sites. My favourite ECO program was the drupella snail collection because it was fun to work on my buoyancy and hover in crazy positions all while helping save corals.

Do you think our additional Marine Conservation ‘ECO’ program was beneficial to your Professional level scuba diving training and if so why?

Yes, I do think it was beneficial to my training because as professional divers we need to be advocates for the ocean and by doing ECO programs it helps keep ocean conservation at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are your future plans with regards to scuba?

I am starting my Instructor Development Course in September then I plan on returning to the states and becoming a Navy diver.

And what about Koh Tao….

Favourite Restaurant?

My favourite restaurant on Koh Tao is Tuktas because they have the best ka proa on the island. A close second is Dickies Burgers because they are open until 1 am and they have the best chips ever (they also deliver).

How did you spend your non-diving days?

I spent my non diving days exploring the island and sleeping.

Where are you heading to next?

I’m going to head home to the states for a holiday then I want to go South Africa and start tech diving.
