What where you doing before you joined Crystal Dive’s team to complete your scuba diving internship on Koh Tao?
I decided against going because I fell in love with scuba diving and wanted to be a Divemaster.
So I got a job at Land Rover and once I had enough money, I started my journey back to Koh Tao.
You completed the Crystal WIP (Working Internship Program) after becoming a certified Divemaster. How long did you spend completing this?
I was excited to get stuck into the WIP and learn all I could about working at Crystal. The internship was 14 days including 2 days off. On my days off I wanted to be at work which is a strange feeling, I have never had that before!
What was your favourite part of the Crystal WIP and why?
I have to say the highlight of my internship was the first time I got to take customers fun diving on my own – Twins and the Wreck. The visibility was amazing and I didn’t get lost! It was an amazing feeling seeing the smiles on the customer’s faces. I still get that feeling now every time I take customers diving. I always have an incredible time.
What was your least favourite part and why?
Cleaning the kit room!
Who was your favourite Instructor and why?
I can’t say I had a favourite instructor they are all pretty great in different ways. Carsten never fails to put a smile on my face! I got to assist Neil whilst doing my internship. It was a scuba review followed by an advanced course with children from a UK school.
There where challenges but I enjoyed it a lot. I had always wanted to assist Neil and liked his style of teaching. I learnt so much in those two days.
Tina will always be a favourite as she was my mentor throughout my DMT and was just amazing – another person who never fails to make people happy. To be honest every instructor has been lovely to me and always been willing to help.
Now you are a qualified PADI Divemaster what are you future plans with regards to scuba?
For a year I have dreamed about working at Crystal and I have finally been given the chance to freelance which I love and I am very happy here. I plan to stay, work hard and then in a few months do my IDC.
And what about Koh Tao?
I love this island. It is by far the most welcoming place I have been too. Koh Tao feels like home and the people I have met have become a second family. You have the best of both worlds here; there are the chilled nights in, and the crazy nights out.
The island has some beautiful view points and great hiking spots too.
You can be surrounded by people, friends everyday or you can have a relaxing day on your own. This island is paradise and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
And your favourite restaurant on Koh Tao?
I am a sucker for having a nice dinner at Enjoy! I could eat there every night and it is nice and close to where I live. But when my friends and family have visited I always like to take them to Fizz. I love the location right on the beach and the food is so good!
How did you spend your non diving days on Koh Tao?
If I’m not scuba diving I like to walk up to the different viewpoints on Koh Tao. It’s always nice to explore the island. Sometimes it is nice to do something different.
Where are you heading next?
The plan was to head to the Gili Islands but who knows anymore! I’m perfectly happy just being here right now taking each day as it comes. We will see!
