Which Internship program did you complete?
What where you doing prior to joining the Crystal Dive team to complete your scuba diving internship on Koh Tao?
I was completing a law degree at university and managing a restaurant for a catering company, part time.
How long have you spent completing your scuba diving internship?
I spent roughly 3 months internship. I took time out to explore other diving destinations such as Koh Phi Phi and of course I had to experience the full moon party on Koh Phangan!
I went home in April, after being certified as a PADI Divemaster for some family birthdays and to visit friends.
The rest of the time I was focused on the internship and really enjoyed learning how a reputable dive centre operates on a daily basis.
The best part was probably being able to take it at my own pace and get to do everything else (non Internship related) I wanted to in between. Things like bouldering, the full moon party and being able to explore the island.
What was your favourite part of the scuba diving Internship and why?
Leading fun divers on guided dives, I get to do what I love and share the experience with other people and show them all the interesting marine life Koh Tao has to offer.
What was your least favourite part and why?
Adjusting from having slow lazy days (at the start when I was just getting my dives up and enjoying island life) to being part of the operation and being able to actively aid the running of the centre.
Who was your favourite Instructor and why?
I get on well with all the instructors but I would have to say it’s a tie between Dirk K, we get on well inside of work and outside on a social level, and Carsten who makes his courses really entertaining and keeps everyone laughing.
As a qualified PADI Divemaster what are you future plans with regards to scuba?
I plan to stay on Koh Tao and do an Instructor course to continue my education and be able to do more in the diving world and pass on my knowledge and passion about diving to other people.
(NB: Update – I have completed my instructor course and am working as an instructor on the Divemaster Team at Crystal and have no plans to leave anytime soon.)
And what about Koh Tao?
I really enjoy being on the island. Coming from big city life to be able to wake up and almost walk straight onto the beach. The island itself has a great vibe, everyone is here to dive but there is a good balance of social activity, while being out the water. It feels like there isn’t much else out there, nothing to worry about except the sun and the water and being with friendly people who share the same ideas.
And your favourite restaurant on Koh Tao?
How did you spend your non diving days on Koh Tao?
Bouldering at the Koh Tao Bouldering Wall and relaxing, eating a lot.
Where are you heading next?
Next is back home to visit friends and family and then onwards with the wind to the next place for the next adventure. Hopefully back to Koh Tao.
