Instructor Examinations (IE)
Upon successful completion of all performance requirements of the Instructor Course you will then have a mock exam over 2 days exactly like the actual exam. This helps our Instructor Trainers to confirm that you are fully prepared to enter the actual 2 day Instructor Examination (IE).
This is an external examination conducted by staff from HQ on Koh Tao. Over two days you’ll be examined to make sure you are able to teach scuba diving safely, working to standards.

Divemaster instructor
Becoming a Divemaster Instructor instantly makes you more employable in the industry. You will be able to teach a range of specialties and train Divemaster Trainees. At Crystal Dive a core part of this is also team teaching with other instructors to gain valuable experience.
The Divemaster Instructor training has 2 sides to it: Team Teaching and Specialty Instructor Training.

To become a Divemaster Instructor you must have the following specialties at instructor level: Deep Specialty, Navigation Specialty and Night & Limited Visibility Specialty. React Right is highly recommended.
The time frame for the course is up to you. You can make it intensive or take your time. More detail can be found on the Divemaster Instructor Training page about whats involved.

Minimum Age
To join our Instructor Course you have to be at least 18 years of age.
Minimum Dives
To join our Instructor Course you need to have 60 logged Open Water Dives totaling 40 hours. If you don’t have them upon arrival, you can build those up here before officially starting with your training. To join the Instructor Evaluation you will need 100 Open Water Dives totalling 65 hours or more.
Certifications
You will have to be a Divemaster and completed the React Right Course (or equivalent with Oxygen Provider) within 24 months before the Instructor Course start & certification. Student level Nitrox Specialty training is also needed.
Medical Statement
You need to be medically fit for diving. You will find the Medical Statement for Scuba Diving here to download. To participate in a Pro-Level-Training Course you need this Medical signed by a physician issued within 12 months before starting the Instructor Course.

Can I start my Instructor Course any day?
No, the Instructor courses run on a strict schedule to fit around the regular monthly exam dates. However if you decide on attending a course that we have scheduled, we can send you some materials for you to start preparing sith self study.
What is the recommended time needed to go from Divemaster to Divemaster Instructor?
As long as you don´t take any breaks, the ITC and IE will take 3 weeks, then the specialty training and team teaching will take roughly 6 weeks.
What are the rates for accommodation in my Instructor Lifestyle Package?
For your Divemaster Course we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate. More information here or just contact us directly.
What are the minimum requirements to start my Instructor Course?

What sort of jobs can I do with my Instructor certification?
The OWI and DMI ratings will let you certify new divers and beyond. However you are not just limited to working in dive schools. Many Instructors work in the yachting industry as well as conservation projects and many more!
Can I Work for Crystal Dive after completing my Instructor Lifestyle Package?
Yes! We constantly have a rotation of staff as many people work for us temporarily. If you decide you would like the chance to join the team, you can do the working internship. This internship is actually included for free with the Instructor Lifestyle Package.
Is it better value to do the Instructor Lifestyle Package?
Yes! As it has none of the additional costs! It will cover absolutly everything you need to get started in the indusrty. Our free diving for life deal is unique, it gives you a home where you can always return for a cheap diving holiday!
