How You’ll Improve Your Scuba Diving Skills
The scuba skills improvement course package at Crystal Dive is designed to be completely flexible. You can complete your training in as little as two days or spread it across five, depending on your preferences and schedule. Choose up to three specialties and tailor your training experience to improve your scuba diving skills in the areas that matter most to you.
While taking the courses in this scuba diving specialty package, you’ll combine theory, land or pool practice, and real open water dives, all under the guidance of a highly-experienced instructor.

Part 1 – Online Theory
Each specialty you choose for this SSI specialty course bundle includes digital learning materials, accessible via the DiveSSI app. You’ll complete this self-paced theory before arrival, giving you more time in the water during your stay.
After reviewing your theory, your instructor will go over key concepts with you to make sure you’re confident and ready to apply your new diving techniques underwater.
Part 2 – Land Practice & Pool Preparation
Depending on your chosen specialties, you’ll complete a land-based or pool session before heading to the ocean. These sessions are designed to build scuba diving experience in a controlled environment so you feel confident and prepared during your dives.
- For Navigation or Search & Recovery, you’ll practice compass work, search patterns, and how to relocate sites using natural references.
- In Perfect Buoyancy, your instructor will guide you through breathing and trim exercises to refine control.
- For DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle), you’ll review equipment assembly, care, and emergency protocols, followed by hands-on pool time to test drive your scooter.
Part 3 – Open Water Dives
Each SSI specialty course includes two open water dives, which we schedule across 1 or 2 boat trips. You’ll apply everything you’ve learned in a real dive setting — whether that’s improving trim and air consumption, executing search patterns, or flying through the reef on a DPV — on sites specifically chosen to give you the best learning environment to improve your scuba diving skills.
If Night Diving is one of your selected specialties, your dives will be split across two evenings to complete the course.

Minimum Certification Level
To book the Improve Your Skills Package, you must be certified as an SSI Open Water Diver or hold an equivalent entry-level certification from a recognised training agency.
Minimum Age
10 years old – Required for Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility, and Computer Diving.
12 years old – Required for Diver Propulsion Vehicle and Search & Recovery specialties.

Recent Diving Experience
We want you to feel confident in the water. If it’s been more than six months since your last logged dive, we’ll ask you to complete a short Scuba Review before starting your SSI specialty courses to ensure your comfort and safety.

Can I start my Specialty Package every day?
In general, yes. We start our courses any given day. To secure your desired start date, we recommend booking your Specialty Package online HERE. This will guarantee your placement in a small group of maximum 4 students per Instructor.
Is it possible to change the schedule for my Specialty Package?
Our schedules are flexible and we will do everything to adjust it to your travel plans. Please contact us to arrange for a schedule that suits you within the limits of the Specialties performance requirements.
Is there a shorter option available for the Specialty Package?
Yes! The schedule depends not only on the amount of dives you have already taken, but as well other factors. Contact us at any time for more information.
What are the rates for accommodation?
For your Specialty Package we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate for the standard course duration of. There are also upgrade options available for the adjacent Koh Tao Regal or Beach Club Resort.. More information here or just contact us directly.
What are the minimum requirements to start my Specialty Package?
The minimum requirements for you to enroll in the Specialty Package are listed here: COURSE PREREQUISITES. If you still have questions about specific requirements or an equivalent certification, please contact us directly.
How many students will be together with me on my Specialty Package?
We pride ourselves to teach our courses personal in groups of max. 4 students per Instructor. If you still prefer a smaller group or a private course please contact us directly. On the other hand, if you travel in a bigger group, please let us know and we arrange for multiple Instructors to teach you together.
Can I take a Go Pro on my dives for the Specialty Courses?
Currently, under Thai law, neither students nor instructors are allowed to use cameras during any course, except for specific photo/video courses. Our In-House Video & Photo company Crystal Images can take professional photos or a broadcast quality video of you on two of your dives of the improve your skills package. Please contact us.
