HOW The Course Works
The SSI Divemaster Instructor Course is built on two key components:
Team Teaching – Learn by doing. You’ll co-teach Divemasters alongside experienced instructors, gaining practical insights, refining your teaching style, and preparing for independent course leadership.
Specialty Instructor Training – You’ll earn at least five SSI Specialty Instructor ratings, including the required specialties:
Deep Diving
Navigation
Night & Limited Visibility
Additional specialties like Wreck, Sidemount, Perfect Buoyancy, or Marine Ecology can be added to strengthen your ability to attract a wide range of students and progress your dive instructor career.
To qualify for your DMI rating, SSI also requires a minimum of 25 logged student certifications. These can include Open Water, Stress & Rescue, and specialty courses — all of which you can achieve through Crystal Dive’s structured team-teach model.

Minimum Age
You must be at least 18 years old to join this program — the minimum legal age for professional scuba instructor certification.
Required Certifications
Before enrolling in Divemaster Instructor training in Thailand, you must hold an active-status SSI Open Water Instructor certification.
Medical Statement

Can I start my Divemaster Instructor training any day?
Yes, this is possible. However the Open Water Instructor courses run on a strict schedule to fit around the regular monthly exam dates, and therefore mostly our Divemaster Instructor training usually begins routinely the day after this.
Is it possible to change the schedule for the Divemaster Instructor Course?
Schedules are somewhat flexible however we will do our best to carry out specialty instructor training in groups, which can help the learning process.
What are the rates for accommodation in my Divemaster Instructor Course?
For your Divemaster Instructor Course we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate. More information here or just contact us directly.
What are the minimum requirements to start my Divemaster Instructor Course?

Yes! We constantly have a rotation of staff as many people work for us temporarily. If you decide you would like the chance to join the team, you can do the Working Internship after your Divemaster Instructor certification. This Internship is actually included for free with the Divemaster Instructor Lifestyle Package.
Whats the next step after completing my Divemaster Instructor Course?
If you want to look for more responsibilties after your Divemaster Instructor, the next step is becoming an Assistant Instructor Trainer! However, once you are a DMI, its advised to get some teaching experience under your belt. Crystal Dive is perfect for this due to the volume of divers that come through our doors, you´ll be able to gain experience quicker than anywhere else in the world!
