How You Will Learn in the Marine Ecology Course Package
Across two to three days, you’ll complete a combination of open water dives and guided theory sessions led by one of our experienced instructors. This marine ecology course package allows you to focus on the areas of marine life training that interest you most.
Whether you’re passionate about coral reefs, sharks, nudibranchs, or ecosystem dynamics, your experience can be tailored to your preferences. Flexible scheduling is available so you can keep learning while still enjoying your time on Koh Tao.

Part 1 – Theory
Each of the eight SSI marine specialty courses includes online learning that you can complete before your arrival.
Once you’re here, your instructor will review the content with you to ensure you fully understand the ecological concepts. This approach gives you a solid foundation in marine environment education before entering the water.
Part 2 – Open Water Dives
Each specialty includes two open water dives. You’ll board one of our custom-built dive boats and head out to some of Koh Tao’s most diverse underwater sites.
During these dives, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in theory, observing marine life up close and deepening your understanding of underwater ecosystems.

Before beginning your marine ecology course package, make sure you meet the basic entry requirements. These standards are in place to ensure you feel confident, safe, and prepared to fully enjoy your marine life training experience.

Minimum Certification Level
To enrol, you’ll need to hold an SSI Open Water Diver certification or an equivalent qualification from another recognised training agency.
Minimum Age
A minimum age of 10 is required to join any of the SSI marine specialty courses included in this package.
Medical Statement
You must be medically fit for scuba diving. You can download the Medical Statement for Scuba Diving here. If you’re unsure about any health conditions, please consult your physician or contact us before booking.
Recent Diving Experience
To get the most out of your training, we recommend having completed a dive within the last six months. If it’s been longer, our Crystal Dive Scuba Review is available to refresh your skills before you begin your marine environment education.

Can I start my Specialty Package every day?
In general, yes. We start our courses any given day. To secure your desired start date, we recommend booking your Specialty Package online HERE. This will guarantee your placement in a small group of maximum 4 students per Instructor.
Is it possible to change the schedule for my Specialty Package?
Our schedules are flexible and we will do everything to adjust it to your travel plans. Please contact us to arrange for a schedule that suits you within the limits of the Specialties performance requirements.
Is there a shorter option available for the Specialty Package?
Yes! The schedule depends not only on the amount of dives you have already taken, but as well other factors. Contact us at any time for more information.
What are the rates for accommodation?
For your Specialty Package we offer accommodation in a private AC room (choice of Double or Twin) at a discounted rate for the standard course duration of. There are also upgrade options available for the adjacent Koh Tao Regal or Beach Club Resort.. More information here or just contact us directly.
What are the minimum requirements to start my Specialty Package?
The minimum requirements for you to enroll in the Specialty Package are listed here: COURSE PREREQUISITES. If you still have questions about specific requirements or an equivalent certification, please contact us directly.
How many students will be together with me on my Specialty Package?
We pride ourselves to teach our courses personal in groups of max. 4 students per Instructor. If you still prefer a smaller group or a private course please contact us directly. On the other hand, if you travel in a bigger group, please let us know and we arrange for multiple Instructors to teach you together.
Can I take a Go Pro on my dives for the Specialty Courses?
Currently, under Thai law, neither students nor instructors are allowed to use cameras during any course, except for specific photo/video courses. Our In-House Video & Photo company Crystal Images can take professional photos or a broadcast quality video of you on two of your dives of the one with nature package. Please contact us.
