How You Learn to Dive in Darkness
Your night diving specialty course is taught over two evenings, combining online learning with real-world training dives. We’ll adjust the schedule to suit your travel plans, but in general, this is what your course will include.

Part 1: Knowledge Development
Before your first dive, you’ll complete the theory portion using the SSI Training App. This interactive e-learning module covers the essentials of how to dive at night, from equipment use to communication methods and hazard awareness. Your instructor will review your progress, answer questions, and provide practical insight into the unique conditions you’ll face on a night dive.
You’ll learn how to plan a night dive, use dive lights effectively, navigate in low visibility, and stay aware of your surroundings. This foundation ensures you’re well-prepared for the hands-on part of the course.
Part 2: Night Dives
The real adventure begins after sunset. You’ll complete two guided night dives on consecutive evenings, each building your confidence and skill underwater in the dark.
You’ll practice controlled entries and exits, buoyancy control in limited visibility, and safe torch communication. As part of your training, you’ll identify nocturnal marine life and explore how familiar reef systems come alive at night.
After both dives are complete, you’ll earn your SSI Night & Limited Visibility Specialty certification and know you have the confidence to explore the ocean after dark, anywhere in the world.

Who Can Join the Night Diving Specialty Course?
This night scuba diving course in Thailand is open to most certified divers. Like all of our training, it follows international safety standards to ensure every diver is properly prepared. Here’s what you’ll need before you begin.

Minimum Age
You must be at least 10 years old to enrol in the SSI Night & Limited Visibility Specialty Course. Divers aged 10 to 14 will earn a junior certification and must dive under appropriate supervision.
Minimum Certification Level
You’ll need an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent from a recognized training agency. This ensures you’re already comfortable underwater before learning how to dive at night.
Medical Statement
All divers must be medically fit for scuba diving. You can download the medical questionnaire here. If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you’ll need clearance from a doctor before beginning your course.
Recent Dive Experience
To get the most out of your night diving specialty course, you should have logged a dive within the last six months. If it’s been a while since your last dive, we’ll ask you to complete a Scuba Review beforehand to refresh your skills and ensure you’re confident in the water.

What’s Included in Your SSI Night & Limited Visibility Specialty Course
Your night diving specialty course includes everything you need to learn how to dive at night safely, confidently, and enjoyably. This course is taught in small groups (max 4 divers per instructor) to ensure you get personal attention throughout your training dives.
You’ll complete your theory through SSI’s digital learning platform, then join us for two guided night dives in calm, tropical waters. As part of this night scuba diving course in Thailand, you’ll experience local reef systems after dark, where marine life comes out in a completely new way.
All scuba gear is provided, including your own dive light and free use of a dive computer. Your instructor will guide you through every step, from dive planning to communication and buoyancy in limited visibility.
