Part 1: Knowledge Development
The Course will start with an Introduction and the necessary Course Paperwork as usual in PADI Courses.
The Theory will be covered with a video followed by some self-study and Knowledge Reviews.
Your instructor will go through those Knowledge Reviews with you and explain local procedures used for your dives as well. There is no exam for this course.
Topics that are covered include deep diving equipment and techniques, deep drift and wall dives, navigation at depth, emergency decompression procedures and nitrogen narcosis.
Part 2: Deep Dives 1 & 2
On the first two dives of your course you start to learn about techniques and considerations when you exceed the 18 meter (60 feet) depth limit from your PADI Open Water Course.
You will start looking more at your dive computer for available no-decompression-times remaining as well as on your pressure gauge as at depth you use more air as well.
Tasks on these two dives include dive planning, looking at color changes and pressure sensitive objects, comparison of dive computer readings and NDL as well as Navigation at depth.
Recommended depth: 18 – 30 metres.
Please Note: If you are already a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, the PADI Deep Adventure dive will be credited and you will start with Dive 2. You can enjoy a Fundive or a dive of another specialty on this trip.
Part 3: Deep Dives 3 & 4
The final two dives will bring you to depths beyond 30 metres. On Deep Dive 3 you will plan a dive with your buddy and Instructor together, to reach a depth between 30 and 40 metres. Along the bottom you will take a nitrogen narcosis test to see if you can solve a timed task.
This can be a calculation, a riddle or a motorskill task. You will then progress to shallower depths following your dive computer’s safety precautions and staying with your no stop times.
At the end of this dive you will simulate what to do in case you accidentially exceeded your no stop times and undergo an 8 minute simulated emergency decompression stop, whilst breathing from emergency breathing equipment for at least 1 minute.
For the final Dive of this course, your task is to plan the dive within the limits of recreational diving, independent from your Instructor.
You will pick an objective for your dive, decide on depth and time as well as plan safe air and no stop limits together with your dive buddy.
Then you will do your first own-planned deep dive with your instructor just following you and you taking the lead …!
After this, you are a fully qualified Deep Specialty diver and celebrate your certification with a cold drink at sunset.
