Leviathan, The Kraken, Hydra. The list of mythical creatures is endless, but Sharks are real and they are not monsters.
Since the infamous movie “Jaws” hit the big screen in the 1970’s, the perception of Sharks was that they were killing machines that had a taste for humans. In fact, most sharks are extremely timid and prefer to not interact with humans at all.
100 million sharks are killed each year for sport, shark fin soup, cartilage and other nonsensical reasons. Its time to stop this to save this important species and keep our oceans healthy.
Sharks are a critical element to the health and balance of the marine ecosystem due to being an apex predator and their role in keeping a balance in their environment.

Depending on your personal schedule we will adjust the program for you and move elements of your personal course to accommodate for your holiday plans, but in general, these are the parts of your training:

Part 1: Theory
After an introduction between you and your Instructor you will complete the necessary PADI paperwork before moving on to theory.
The Knowledge Development part of your PADI Shark Conservation Course starts by self-study with your personal copy of the PADI manual.
This will introduce you to the conservation status of sharks, why they are unique and vulnerable, and the importance of healthy shark populations.
You will also learn how to manage threats to sharks, recognize the value of sharks and remove barriers to conservation and actions you can take to protect sharks and how joining a global movement of divers can help to protect sharks. about the interaction and relationships of marine life and their symbiotic relationships.
Together with your instructor you will then go over those Knowledge Reviews and relate these to the specifics of the marine ecosystem here on Koh Tao.
Part 2: Dives
For your PADI Shark Conservation Course we will get on one of our 3 custom built dive boats and go out for two dives
On these dives you will be looking at the environment and whether it is suitable for sharks.
Your Instructor will help you identify potential hazards to Sharks in the area that could impact their health.
If you are lucky on your dives, you may see a shark species. If you do, your Instructor will help you identify the species
After your dives, we will add the information from your dives in your dive log book and you will be a certified PADI Shark Conservation diver!

Minimum Age
The minimum age to enroll in the PADI Shark Conservation Course is 12 years.
Minimum Certification Level
To become a PADI Shark Conservation Diver you will have to hold a certification as a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver (or equivalent from another certification agency).
Medical Statement
Insurance
To comply with our dive insurance requirements, you will need to have proof (logbook etc.) of a dive within the last 6 months otherwise you will need to take part in our Crystal Dive Scuba Review before taking part in the course to receive our insurance cover.

In general, yes. We start our courses any given day. To secure your desired start date, we recommend booking your PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Course online HERE. This will guarantee your placement in a small group of maximum 4 students per Instructor.
Is it possible to change the schedule for the PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Course?
Our schedules are flexible and we will do everything to adjust it to your travel plans. Please contact us to arrange for a schedule that suits you within the limits of the PADI AWARE Shark Conservation performance requirements.
What are the accommodation rates for my PADI Shark Conservation Course?

We pride ourselves to teach our PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Course personal in groups of max. 4 students per Instructor. If you still prefer a smaller group or a private course please contact us directly. On the other hand, if you travel in a bigger group, please let us know and we will arrange for multiple Instructors to teach you together.
Will I see different dive sites during my Open Water Dives in the PADI Shark Conservation Course?
We have 3 custom built dive boats and choose the dive sites based on your course requirements, comfort level and weather conditions. Generally, we change dive sites on a daily basis, so you will dive at the best spots available for your PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Course. More about our boats here.
