PADI EQUIPMENT SPECIALTY COURSE
If you are a PADI Equipment Specialist, you can be literally a dive-saver, especially if you’re diving independently with a buddy rather than with professional dive support.
The PADI Equipment Specialty is one for the inquisitive, those who want to know how things work, why things work,
or simply those who need to understand SCUBA a little better than most.
During this course you learn about everything from tanks to BCDs to regulators in a little more detail than you had learned previously. You even learn some basic maintenance and minor repair techniques.
You will learn greater detail about each component in your SCUBA system, some history, some of the techniques the technicians use to test and repair the equipment. You will see the insides of some of the equipment and learn the intricacies of the way they work.
The PADI Equipment Specialty typically takes 6-8 hours (a short day with a lunch break). Most of the day is in class with some short breaks to gain some insights to equipment at the dive centre, but the main focus is substantial time spent dismantling and reassembling various pieces of dive gear.
YOUR PADI EQUIPMENT SPECIALTY COURSE
Learn how to properly clean and care for all of your dive gear, and significantly extend the life of your equipment.
Depending on your personal schedule we will adjust the program for you and move elements of your personal course to accommodate for your holiday plans, but in general, these are the parts of your training:

Part 1: Theory / Self-study
The PADI Equipment Specialist Touch is available as part of the PADI Equipment Specialty course. As part of this course, you’ll learn about routine care and maintenance as well as scuba equipment storage recommendations. Your instructor will show you how to overcome some common equipment problems and offer equipment configuration suggestions. You may even get to jump into the water to try new or unfamiliar equipment for the first time with the assistance of a PADI Pro.
Part 2: In-person session
You need to participate in the instructor-led knowledge development sessions by completing all knowledge reviews from the PADI Equipment Specialist student manual.
It’s important that divers take proper care of the equipment. Failing to do so often results in a malfunction or a complication.
Thus, you will learn a lot about routine care, maintenance, and industry recommendations for storing dive gear safely.
Besides that, you will also learn about:
Scuba equipment routine maintenance procedures, service, and carrying out general repairs.
How to overcome some common problems with scuba units (e.g. through configuration suggestions).
The theory, principles, and operation of diving equipment.
How diving equipment is manufactured, how it works, and tips for packing and kit storage.
Note: Another section explains the key differences between balanced vs. unbalanced regulators and how they function.
